It’s Not The Price You Paid To Be A Member….It’s
The Price You Paid To Become Eligible
PVT. GEORGE F. SCHINDLER
Attention! Here’s the latest:
REMINDER: This month’s post meeting is scheduled for WEDNESDAY,
June 18th , AT 7:30 PM. All members are invited to attend.
WHATS HAPPENING AT OUR POST:
April and May Suppers Status Report: Both were huge successes.
The Spaghetti sold out and we made a profit of $856.00.
The Roast Beef Supper was sold out and we made a profit
of over $1,000.00. Thanks to all who attended and those
who helped out. We do not have anymore suppers scheduled
until September. We may have a Chicken or Steak BBQ during
the summer, but I’ll let you know if we do.
Post Nominations and Elections: We held our elections at
the May meeting and the following are your officers for
the year 2008/2009: Alvin Smart, Commander; Edwin Stedman,
Senior Vice Commander; Larry Hurley, Jr. Vice Commander;
Ernie Camara, Quartermaster; Danny Amorim, Chaplain; Doug
Mullen, Judge Advocate; Surgeon, Larry Dahlgren and Service
Officer, Warren Moffitt. Congratulations to the newly elected
officers and good luck.
Memorial Day Parade: Was a great success. The weather was
perfect. We started at 2 pm at Church Street with ceremonies
and music. We kicked off the parade and marched down Church
to Depot and up to the Civil War Memorial where we had another
ceremony, music, speeches and our VOD winner read her speech.
The Parade Marshal’s this year were Bill Thompson and Daniel
Krajcik. Congratulations to both WWII Veterans.
Poppy Drive: Our Post Poppy Drive on May 16th (May 17th
was cancelled) netted almost $1,800.00. Not bad for one
day. Thank you to all who took the time to help out our
Chaplain’s Fund. Due to conflicting scheduling on the part
of Roche Brothers and Dunkin Doughnuts, we had to cancel
the drive for Saturday. However, we will be having another
drive on November 7 & 8. I’ll be getting back to you
on the new schedule.
July Yard Sale: Comrades, please be thinking about our posts
annual yard sale that will take place on July 19th. Please
start bringing stuff you don’t want to the post now. We’ll
need a lot of items to sell…..so if you have stuff you want
to get rid of or you want to clean out your basement or
garage, please bring your stuff to the post after 4 pm to
Cathy Quist. If you have items that need to be picked up
please give me a call at 508-238-7143.
Unserviceable Flags: Anyone who has unserviceable American
flags that need to be retired, can give these to any VFW
officer or dropped them off at the VFW post anytime after
4 pm to Fred or Cathy Quist. Proper retirement of old and
unserviceable flags is the responsibility of our post and
the VFW.

trusts an unidentified source."
Veterans Memorial Park: September 28th is the dedication
date for the dedication of the Vietnam Honor Roll. With
the dedication of this Honor Roll we want to recognize those
who served and provide a ceremony fitting of recognizing
their service and their sacrifice. Please come out and help
us to dedicate “The Vietnam Honor Roll” at Veterans Memorial
Park. We would especially like to see as many veterans who
are on the memorial as well as family and friends. I am
also seeking pictures and articles from Veterans during
this period for a program book that will be published and
handed out during the dedication. If you have photos, articles
or anything that we could put in the program book, please
contact Alvin Smart, at 508-238-7143 for inclusion or mail
it to me at 179 Washington Street, North Easton, MA 02356.
All pictures and/or articles will be returned to the senders.
You may drop off photos and articles to the Veterans Agent,
Steve Nolan, or any VFW member also and they will get them
to me. You can drop off anything at the VFW Post on Allen
Road and Rockland Street after 4 pm each day.
Buy a Brick for the Memorial and help us raise money: You
don’t have to be from Easton to have a brick placed at Veterans
Memorial Park. All comrades should help support the funding
of Veterans Memorial Park by purchasing a brick. Bricks
sell for $100.00 each and you can have up to 3 lines engraved
on each brick – to include 17 characters per line including
spaces. If you would like to purchase a brick, please send
us the check along with the three printed, lines filled
out on a piece of paper and mail to: VFW Post 2547, P.O.
Box 103, North Easton, MA 02356. Checks should be made out
to “VFW Post 2547.” A special fund has been set up for money
collected for the memorial Honor Roll. Please spread the
word about the bricks.
Post Hall For Rent: All members are reminded that the Post
Hall is available for rent for your party or anyone who
may want to have a function. Please call Cathy Quist at
the post at 508-238-9063 after 4 pm for scheduling. Please
spread the word that the hall is for rent. Cost for rental
is only $100.00 and includes the use of the kitchen.
Do you have an e-mail Address? If you have an e-mail and
still have not sent it to me, then please send it to me
either by mailing or e-mail me at alvinsmart@comcast.net.
If you did not get this newsletter by e-mail then I do not
have your e-mail address. I am trying to get a list of all
members who have e-mail address so I can send you the newsletter
and other information. This also helps with cost of postage.
An Afterthought: A man was being tailgated by a stressed
out woman on a busy boulevard.
Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him.
He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even
though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating
through the intersection. The tailgating woman was furious
and honked her horn, screaming in frustration as she missed
her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her
cell phone and makeup. As she was still in mid-rant, she
heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of
a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to
exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police
station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed,
and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a
policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was
escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer
was waiting with her personal effects.
He said, “I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled
up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping
off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at
him. I noticed the “What Would Jesus Do” bumper sticker,
the “Choose Life” License plate holder, the “Follow Me to
Sunday-School” bumper Sticker, And the chrome-plated Christian
fish emblem on the trunk, Naturally...I assumed you had
stolen the car.”
Another Afterthought: A Blonde goes to K-Mart to buy curtains.
She said to the salesman, “I would like to buy a pair of
pink curtains”. The salesman assures her that they have
a large selection of pink curtains.
He shows her several patterns but the blonde seems to be
having a hard time choosing. Finally she selects a lovely
pink floral print. The salesman then asks what size curtains
she needs. The blonde promptly replies, “Seventeen inches.”
''Seventeen inches?” asked the salesman. “That sounds very
small, what room are they for?” The blonde says, “They aren't
for a room, they are for my new computer monitor.” The surprised
salesman replies, “But Miss, computers do not need curtains!”
The blonde says, “Hellooooooooo ..I've got Windoooooows.......”
That’s it for now. I’ll talk to you next month.
